Kyle was born in Rochester, New York, to Anne G. Welch and Warren Welch. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1989, where she was a stellar athlete, competing in soccer and softball, as the team’s special “lefty” and a lead-off batter.
As a child, Kyle was a Pop Warner cheerleader and a dancer, enjoying ballet, jazz and tap. She first learned to waterski at the age of three at her family’s cottage in Newboro, Ontario, Canada, which became one of her most beloved places, creating wonderful memories for her with her parents, siblings and friends. The family recounts that one of the best places to fish was “Kyle’s Rock,” which earned the moniker because Kyle always caught fish there (even if no one else did!). Kyle was very close with her sister, Rachel, and brother, Tim, and they would spend hours as children on the family’s player piano, pumping the pedals and singing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” at the top of their lungs.
At the early age of 12, Kyle was driven to volunteer as a candy striper at Highland Hospital in Rochester, which began a lifelong passion for nursing and caring for others. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in 1994, followed by her R.N. Degree from the University of Rochester School of Nursing and an Advanced Degree in the Nurse Anesthesia Program from Georgetown University. Kyle spent the past 14 years working as a nurse in Philadelphia – at Pennsylvania Hospital (Penn Medicine), Wills Eye Institute, and most recently at Temple University Hospital. In nursing, Kyle truly found her calling. She was an extraordinarily compassionate caregiver, who was always sensitive to the needs of her patients and empathetic for the experiences they were going through.
Kyle was blessed with lifelong friendships, from childhood, high school, college, graduate school and work. Any one of them would describe her as being fiercely loyal, independent and always up for an adventure. Her quick wit and fun loving attitude was legendary and her huge heart made a lasting impression on all she met.
She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents (Phil and Reba Griffin) and paternal grandparents (Chet and Elsie Welch) and Uncle John Griffin, and is survived by her parents, sister Rachel Welch (Gerard Salemme) and brother Timothy Welch (Christyn), her nephews Michael Salemme, Matthew Salemme, Drew Welch and John Welch. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins: Uncle Doug and Aunt Ginger Welch, Uncle Craig and Aunt Connie Welch and cousins Stephen Welch, Kimberly Welch, Brian Welch, Paige Welch McGeorge (Wes), Kenzie Welch Fuqua (Kevin), and Shawn Welch (Emily).
Kyle will be dearly missed by her family and all of the friends she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Kyle’s name.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at All Seasons Chapel located at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534
