Ms. Theresa Loan Thi Tran was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on June 19th, 2021 at the age of 78 after a long battle with renal failure and cardiac complications. She was survived by a daughter Annalisa Torrente Haney and a son Richard Torrente, along with three grandchildren Maya, Joshua and Jacob.
She was born to Mr. Peter Dinh Cong Tran and Mrs. Rosa Nhu Thi Tran in Nam-Dinh, a North Vietnam town known for its ancestral shrines and temples. At a young age, she had to step in to help her mother who was busy managing their restaurant in the absence of her father to take care of her 7 younger siblings. She had shown unwavering care and devotion as the eldest sister to her siblings and family all throughout her youthful years into adulthood. She was accepted to the Military Nurse Program in South Vietnam in her early twenties and started a career as a Military Nurse during the Vietnam War where she cared for the many wounded Southern Vietnamese soldiers along side with the Allied soldiers in the battle field. She had received many honors for her dedicated services, especially with her skills with being fluent in English to serve as an interpreter with the Military Advisors during the war.
During her Military Nurse service, she met her now deceased husband Osirio Torrente who was working at the US Navy Base in Vietnam as a construction Engineer. They had a fruitful life together in Vietnam until the fall of Saigon in April 1975 when they had to evacuate to Manila, Philippines, her husband’s native country.
In Loan’s early fifties, she finally was able to reunite with her 4 siblings in Philadelphia. Upon migrating to the US, she obtained her certification in Nursing Assistant and was able to resume her interest and commitment in caring for others. She fulfilled a 10 year long Nursing Assistant career at Hahnemann Hospital until her retirement due to health condition.
During her retirement years, Loan had dedicated herself to advancing the cause of the Organization for the Elderly Vietnamese community and had assisted numerous South Philadelphia Vietnamese residents as an interpreter. She will be long remembered by the Vietnamese community in Philadelphia for her generosity and willingness to help.
She came full circle when she was admitted to Aventura at Pembrooke Nursing Home as a resident, a facility where she has worked for many years in her early Nursing career in the US caring for the many elderly residents herself. Loan passed away peacefully at the facility where she started as a Nursing Assistant. She was well loved by the staff for her sweet demeanor, kindness and gentleness; and will surely be missed. Her life exemplify her belief in the value of helping, servicing others and believing in God through her Catholic faith.
Loan is much loved by her family and will be well remembered for her extraordinary generosity, helpfulness and great compassion for humanity, especially by those whom she had touched and helped throughout her kind and selfless life.
