

Marian Jean (nee Yunker) Jackson, 90, of Downingtown, PA passed away on Tuesday January 15, 2013 after a brief illness. Marian was born on May 7, 1922 in Coraopolis, PA to the late Regina (nee Shaub) & Albert F. Yunker.; and was the wife of the late Joseph Jackson. Marian was raised in McKees Rocks, PA and following her 1939 HS graduation; she attended Mount Mercy College and earned her R.N. certification in 1942. Marian was a WW II Veteran, serving in England and France as a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps; earning a commendation for her service to US Army casualties in Normandy. Following the war, Marian attended Duquesne University, where she met her future husband and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education in 1948. They later married in April 1949. Marian tirelessly cared for him and their six children during multiple moves across PA and NJ; finally settling in Berwyn, PA. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Monica Church from 1964 to 2004. Marian worked as a Nursing Supervisor at Devon Manor for many years. Marian and Joe relocated to Downingtown, PA, joining St. Joseph Church in 2004. Marian will always be remembered for her feisty spirit and as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her interests included playing bridge, volunteering for St. Jude’s Thrift Shop; as well as being an accomplished tennis player. She also enjoyed social outings with friends and relatives. Marian was predeceased by a sister: Anita (the late James) Heger. She is survived by 6 children: Thomas (Robin) Jackson, William (Patrice) Jackson, Anne (Stephen Murray) Jackson, Patricia (Michael) Gonoude, Ellen Jackson and John Jackson; 2 sisters: Claire (Joe) Pandl and Nancy (Ralph) Isler. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call on Tues. Jan. 22 at Saint Joseph Church: 388 Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335 from 11AM-12PM. A Memorial Mass will begin at 12PM. Burial will be private per the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marian’s honor to Catholic Charities USA, P.O. Box 17066, Baltimore, MD 21297-1066. Arrangements are with Alleva Funeral Home, Inc., Paoli, PA.
