I knew Ward briefly many years ago, while I was living and working in Paoli, as a young adult. 

During the limited occasions we would converse, Ward exhibited a positive attitude, a focused interest in track & field sports, and a friendly demeanor toward one dating his older sister. 

My sincere condolences to all of the family members. The loss of a sibling is a very private heartbreaking experience.

Ward (Wardo) was a kind, generous, loving friend.  The kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and the back to go with it.  Anytime.  Anywhere.  I especially remember how much my 2 boys loved him while growing up in Bryn Athyn.  He was always smiling.  Always joking and telling great, funny stories.  Always up on Philly sports. Loved and missed dearly by anyone and everyone whose life he touched.  I'm so glad our paths crossed.  Looking forward to seeing you one day in Valhalla, my friend.

It just seems like yesterday that we were all at Mont Alto.  Ward was amongst the first I met at college.  Our first day together was a hike up to the Full Knob. Ward was a great friend, both before and after college. The stories are too numerous to tell. 

It was great to not only know Ward, but the entire Madeira family.  The Madeira's exemplified what family is. Ward's friends were always welcome in that house.  The Madeira family had a way of making you feel part of their family.  That is something I will always treasure, and a tradition I try to carry on.

We all grew together, through good and bad times. No matter how rough, Ward could flash that smile. And always seem to have solutions.  He genuinely cared. 

At PSU we were immortal. I suppose I'll always choose to think of us that way. I will miss you Ward.  Be at peace my friend.

Dearest Winfrey. Just so you know we have so many memories of the dearness of Ward. The time he took the kids to the dog show: The trips to sporting events: The golf games with Andrew and Kaitlyn: The love he gave to our Puppy when he was the sitter: The trips he took with Steve to the doctors: The delicious things he grilled and shared: The wonderful vegetables from his garden: The sports articles and magazines he saved for Andrew:  The fun eats at Chickie's and Pete's: The sleepovers with the kids showing old sports movies: Visits at the beach, Ward in his chair with the paper. I also know from important math people in the district that Ward was an amazing teacher. A real stand for all kids. And finally, my dear, I know that he was just crazy for you! Today was a very sad day for me. My cousin Ward passed away. Rest in peace Wardo God has a new visitor in heaven. I have so many memories with you. I love you Wardo. We all miss you Wardo. Thanks for taking me to Eagles training camp when I was a kid. Every time I saw you I had a smile on my face. I love you so much words can't describe. The last time that Ward and I talked he was filled with joy and enthusiasm for life and for the kids that he was helping with math. I will remember that talk and his laugh that I heard playing at the beach with him for many summers in a row. He was a thoughtful and kind person and I am deeply saddened by his passing.

So sorry to hear this news, I haven't seen Ward in many, many years but he was a big part of my growing up. We visited my cousins, the Fosters, in Paoli quite often. I have so many great memories from those years. Rest in Peace my friend.

I met ward through his beautiful wife Winfrey when my daughter Saniyah was struggling with fifth grade math. Mr ward would come two days a week sometimes three depending on if there was a test coming up. He was determined for Saniyah to get an A and happy to say she pass math with flying colors. Not only did he tutor my daughter a special friendship  happened with me and my whole family. He kept us laughing and always felt right at home when he was over. I am truly heartbroken because he help me and my family through the most difficult time in our lives when we lost my grandfather.  He cooked us dinner and desert that my husband beged him to make over and over again. Ward showed us so much love and gave us words of encouragement to help us feel better. Ward even came by just to give my granny a hug something he would often do when he was over. Even though I only knew him for 8 months I feel like I knew him for a life time he was truly an angel in my eyes.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Winfrey and the rest of the family he was truly a blessing and will be missed dearly.

Ward and I made many memories.  At Green Tree Elementary, we were inseparable.  Our friendship was bonded with boyish shenanigans.  Decades later, Ward had me laughing with tears as he relayed those childhood tales to our wives.  He took pleasure in verbally painting the picture of us and all our foibles to the delight of our spouses.  By the end of his tale, I was in breathless hysterics on his floor.  The truth was out; Winfrey and Perri had their suspicions confirmed.  The combination of our personalities brought forth an added dimension to us both.

After High School, Mrs. Madeira and Mary took us out to Mont Alto to lease a room in the Tilt'n Hilton.  Little could we know how formative the next two years would be.  As college roommates, we once sold tickets to our own boxing match to pay for beer.  Ward won by decision.  He always was a better athlete.  Ward fought hard.

His competitive spirit served him.  Now, he's at peace.  I was blessed to have had him as a close friend for so long.  He enriched my life and I am grateful.

Ward was my brother Dan's best friend growing up and through PSU-Mont Alto to adulthood. He was a kind, caring, sincere gentleman.  I can still hear Ward, Dan and Ed's laughter  as they went through old memorabilia last spring as we packed up the family home to move mom into a small apt.  We will all always miss Ward. Our condolences Winfrey and the Madeira family. Peace be with you. RIP Ward.

My condolences to the Madeira family.  I met Ward at Mont Alto.  He impressed me as possessing the kindest heart and biggest spirit of anyone I ever met.  Ward defined the word gentleman.  May your family have peace as you rest my friend.

A friend in childhood came to our pool.
"They swim like fish," dads would say.
Bill and Dick - I can still hear their laughs.
"That's Mark and Nick and Ward and Emmet too.
They'll come up for air when there's food."

Many picnics, ball games and bike rides; lots of 45's and dogs and fireworks displays.

I cannot even say when I got a new friend.

It's so hard to keep track of so many childhood days.

One constant shining bright through many a four season night was not named Orion or Betelgeuse, though we did watch the stars those summer nights.

And, I'm not sure whose wagon or car we sat on to make a wish 
And gaze at shooting stars after summer haze.

It has to be a distant memory 
When you can't remember whose house you were in or
Where you left your bike that day 
Or whose fault it was your finger attracted that giant crayfish!

One constant shining bright on the pitcher's mound
A football, frisbee, wiffle ball and glove all around.

One smiling genius boy like me who always sported a handy grin
In time to break up a rivalry
In time to make up a fake story
In time to remind you it's just a game.

All the same, it feels like yesterday and I know it's cliché, but that's what friendship has always meant to me. 
A person you could reach no matter how long it had been.
And still flash those shades and that grin. 

In all the travels of my subsequent days,

Has not been the money, the things or the day following the night.

But a thought and a feeling 
I could count on 
Of a friend
Of a time
Of an era 
Perhaps long gone.

We differed there.

Wonderful memories flooding back of the four of us together whether it be celebrating early New Year's Eve, listening to the Philadelphia Orchestra under the stars at the Mann or having breakfast together in Jenkintown. Ward's spirit lives on for sure.

My sympathies go out to Ward's family.  I knew Ward through Penn State Mont Alto Soccer while returning to play Alumni games and continued to get to know him through the years at PSU football games and get togethers.  He will be missed by many.

I met Ward at Penn State Mont Alto through soccer.  He was a leader on the team and on campus.  What a classy man.  He will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family...
