
William J. Redmond, age 83, of Valley Forge, PA died Thursday November 10, 2011, following a brief illness.
Mr. Redmond, a Certified Public Accountant, spent seventeen years in public accounting with Lybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery before going into private accounting in 1970. Subsequently, he worked for Leeds and Northrup in North Wales, PA for sixteen years. He retired in 1987 as Vice President, International Finance.
Mr. Redmond was married for fifty-five years to Mary Redmond (nee Wittwer) and they have five sons: William, Jr. (Helene); Michael (Susan); James (Dona); David (Angela); and Christopher (Maura). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister.
Mr. Redmond managed and served in various capacities in the Devon Strafford Little League. He also coached in the Devon Strafford Big League.
Mr. Redmond also served as a trustee for the Tredyffrin Township Police Pension Fund for several years.
Mr. Redmond was a founding member of St. Isaac Jogues Church in Valley Forge, where he volunteered in numerous capacities over the last forty-one years: Lector, Usher, and Member of the Finance Committee. He also counted the collection for many years.
He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing tennis and golf regularly. Mr. Redmond held memberships for many years at Frog Hollow Racquet Club, Glenhardie Country Club, Phoenixville Country Club, and Pelican Bay Golf Club, in Ponce Inlet, FL.
Mr. Redmond also served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Prior to that, he had served in the U.S. Navy’s V-12 Program—a predecessor to ROTC—during his college years.
He graduated from Villanova University in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Economics. He was a founding member of the Valley Forge Chapter of the Villanova Alumni Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Mr. Redmond on Wednesday November 16, 2011 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Valley Forge, 50 W. Walker Road, Wayne, PA 19087. Interment was at St. Monica’s Cemetery, Berwyn, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the above Church.
