Born to Nyagach Gatkuoth Puon & Duol Chamkuach Chuol on Saturday June 1st 1970 in Walediit, Akobo. Koang
was raised in Akobo. He accepted God into his life in 1981. Between 1981 and 1983, Koang left Akobo to live and attand school in Khartoum, Sudan. In 1983, Koang left Sudan and went to Itang Refugee Camp in Ethiopia. While at Itang, he became active in the life of church and worked as choir director in Betha Center. At the same time Koang attended Itang primary school. In 1988, he passed his eighth grade exam and went on to Gambella, Ethiopia to complete grades 9-12. He would have graduated and recieved his Ethiopian Living Certificate in 1991, but the changes in the Ethiopian government in 1990 forces him back to South Sudan without completeing his education. Koang went directly to Akobo, South Sudan where he contributed to his comminity by teaching Physical Education to grade school and primary level students at Akobo Primary school. He returned to Ethiopia in 1992 in search of a better life and to complete his schooling. From Ethiopia, Koang found his way to Epo Refugee Camp of Kenya where he later recieved a resettlement form to come to the United States of America. He arrived in the United States in 1994. Upon his arrival, Koand immediately started working and helping his family back home. He lived in South Dakota and Iowa before moving to Nebraska. Koang went to be with God on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He passed away at the University Medical Center in Omaha with family and friends at his side. Koang is survived by his mother, Nyagach Gatkuoth Puon, and two sisters Nyakuoth & Nyaluak currently living in Akobo, South Sudan. He also left behind a group of caring brothers and sisters within the Lou Nuer and Nuer community in Diaspora. He will be missed.
