David V. Perez, age 70, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, after a prolonged illness. Dave was born on January 27th, 1953 to Louis and Delia Perez. Dave was the oldest of six children, and it was his job to keep all the younger kids in line.
Dave grew up in South Omaha and attended Catholic schools his entire life - graduating from Paul VI High School in 1971. Dave met Sue (Boesiger), and they had two children together, David Jr. (Molly) the “pride of his life” whom he talked with every day and his daughter Jennifer his “brown eyed girl”.
Dave joined OPPD in 1974 where he spent the next 36 years making lifelong friends such as Ed, Tommy, Chris, Wayne and so many others - retiring in 2013. During his time at OPPD, Dave met his second wife, Deb (Hockinson) Perez, and they married - adding four more children to their special family, Ryan (Erin) Hockinson, Grant Hockinson, Troy Hockinson and Shannon (Chad) Verbeck.
Throughout the years Dave and Deb enjoyed riding Harleys, even taking his mother-in-law for her first Harley ride at age 90, attending football games, the Superbowl with his grandsons, David and Tanner, traveling around the country, and attending Faith Family Church together. Dave and Deb loved their friends and neighbors and made a lasting impact on so many lives. As Deb mentioned, Dave would be shocked at how many lives he’s touched.
Recently, In January, Dave turned 70 and enjoyed a wonderful surprise party given by his sweet sisters, Angie, Dina and Connie who invited so many friends and family, it’s a special memory they all share. Another special blessing was their nine grandchildren, David, Tanner, Collin, Colton, Samson, Keegan, Ezra, Eloise and Ethan. These gifts from God brought them so much joy especially during these last few months. Dave cried every time he saw his grandchildren which he considered his legacy.
Dave will be greatly missed but the impact of his life will be in our hearts and memories forever.
