

Attended Biels elementary and George Norris Middle school where he was setting records at swim meets.
His family moved to Springfield, Nebraska in 1961. He attended Platteview Jr. Sr. High where he met his wife of 52 years, Barbara L. Vierregger, and graduated in 1966.
He enlisted in the US Army in March on 1967 during the Viet Nam war. Basic Training at Fort Bliss, Texas; AIT at Ft. Eustis, Virginia for Turbine Utility Helicopter Mechanic training; served in Viet Nam 1967-1968 - Americal Division, 71st Assault Helicopter Company based at Chu Lai; was a crew chief/gunner on UH 1 Huey Helicopters - Unit call sign "Rattlers." Battles he was involved in were: Battle for Hue during TET Offensive; support for the siege at Kha Shan; support for Special Forces Camp at Kham Duc; Ah-Shaw Valley conflict; classified secret missions for Special Forces into Laos; siege at Thong Duc; Mai Lai conflict, to name a few. Received Air Medal with Numeral 26. Stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas for the remainder of his 3 years; attended Jungle Expert Training in Panama; served on Military Funeral Detail KS/NE - rotated out 2 Apr 1970.
Ed and Barb were married 14 Feb 1970. Two children were born to this union; Edward Jr. and Janet.
Ed was employed by Sensation Lawn Mower in Ralston; Control Data/Seagate Corporation for 22 years as an Electrical, Mechanical Engineer/Senior Maintenance Specialist; and Weyerhaeuser Paper Company as an All Skilled Maintenance Technician. He retired in 2008.
Ed enjoyed traveling on his motorcycles. He and Barb traveled to all but 9 states - the best trip was to Alaska in 1995 for their 25th anniversary.
His other love was mowing his yard and perimeters "so the neighbors wouldn't talk bad" about his lawn; and sitting on the front step watching the world go by.
Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dee Miles.
Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara; son, Edward J. Jr. (Shelly) Mills; daughter, Janet (Joshua) Mills/Rodriguez; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Sophia, and Victoria; step-grandson, Michael; brother, Richard (Pam) Mills; sisters-in-law, Susan (Ralph) Heine, Wanda (Gary) Swanigan, Carolynn Vierregger; brother-in-law, Roger (Teri) Vierregger; step-aunts and uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
