

James W. "Jim" Gigrich, aged 88, of Papillion, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on September 4, 2024. He was a cherished member of the Catholic Chapel at Offutt Air Force Base, where his presence and contributions were deeply valued by all who knew him. Jim was born in St. Paul, MN. His journey through life was one marked by unwavering dedication and selflessness, beginning with his formative years at Cretin High School, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to Faith, service, and compassion.
Jim's commitment to serving his country was profound and unyielding. He proudly served in the United States Army for two years before embarking on a distinguished 20-year career in the Air Force. Throughout his military tenure, Jim exemplified bravery and honor, particularly during the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War. His sacrifices and steadfast resolve in the face of adversity earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and fellow service members.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jim continued his legacy of service by dedicating 39 years of his life to the United States Postal Service. In his role, he embodied reliability and diligence, ensuring that every task he undertook was executed with precision and care. His unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on all those he encountered.
Despite his human imperfections, Jim's loving spirit and devotion to his family and faith was undeniable. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Agnes and Richard, as well as his sisters, Joanne McGrane and Donna Fries, and his brother Dick Gigrich, whose memories he cherished dearly. Jim's legacy lives on through his beloved wife Gleysis and his children: Janet (Mark) Olmstead, Henry (Carmen) Gigrich, and James (Becky) Gigrich, who will continue to carry forward his values of love, integrity, and compassion.
In addition to his children, Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth in the hearts of his eight grandchildren, all of whom he adored and cherished deeply. His impact will resonate for generations to come, serving as a testament to the depth of his love and the strength of his character.
As a devoted husband of 60+ years to Gleysis M. Gigrich, father, grandfather, and friend, Jim's kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
