

Haines City, Florida- Jeffrey Scott Atkinson, 61, passed away December 12, 2023 surrounded by family. Born on October 1, 1962 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Carl Alden Atkinson and Anna Lee Larsen (Atkinson). Jeffrey graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School where he was in ROTC and the drum major for the marching band. He immediately joined the United States Air Force where he obtained the rank of MSgt. He served proudly and honorably in Security Forces serving two tours in Korea. Some of his many career achievements included Airman of the Year, Security Specialist of the Year, and NCO of the year on four occasions. He retired after 21 years of service for his country. After retirement Jeffrey went on to become a graduate of the University of Phoenix obtaining his Masters Degree in Administration of Justice and Security. He enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his grandchildren, family, and his best four legged pals Vido, Trixie, Bear, Abby, and Willow. He found enjoyment in cross county road trips with his famous green thermos filled with coffee, fishing, going to any ball games he and his best friend Alvin could get to, working with fellow veterans who quickly became friends, and Jeff always found peace in playing the piano to bring enjoyment to others. Those who truly knew Jeff knew what an honorable and loyal man he was. He loved his family and serving his country the most. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Anna Lee Atkinson and one brother James (Jim) Atkinson. He leaves behind his daughters Amber (Cale) Leahy of Omaha, Nebraska, Mariah (David) Clay of Eustis, Florida, Stepson Thomas Whitfield of Poinciana, Florida grandchildren Laliana Carter, Taliyah Carter, Olivia Leahy, Kai Leahy, Luca Clay, and Mackenzie Clay. He also leaves behind two sisters Nancy (Richard) Nelson, Janie (Gary) Herrick and four brothers, Dennis (Karen) Atkinson, Richard (Stacey) Atkinson, Douglas (Julie) Atkinson, Joseph (Kim) Atkinson, a host of nieces and nephews, two honorary children Lexie Booher-Wells and Joshua Booher, and many lifelong friends.
Family will receive friends Monday February 5th 2024 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at the Kahler Dolce Mortuary followed immediately by A Memorial Service at 1:00 PM at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N. Washington St, Nebraska 68046. Following the Memorial Service will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, Nebraska 68138.
