Wow, so many great memories of and with John, especially during evenings working on the hydroelectric project in Bolivia. Something about that time and place facilitated much introspection and sharing. Tales of Coast Guard days in Viet Nam and the rescue boat on the Oregon coast where he was swept overboard and floated in the swells until his crew finally tracked him down. At night! Unbelieveable! John was a caring and compassionate individual, a person of tremendous talents and many interests. Insightful, John combined an engineer's capacity for quick and accurate analysis with a big and compassionate heart, qualities both rare and endearing. I have the sense that dealing with the loss of Jeff expanded his understanding and relationship with life and his place in the Cosmos. John's connected with people, he cared. What a live well lived!

Dear Linda and Tom,
Just after learning the sad news about john’s passing away, I had the opportunity to remember our friendship of more than twenty years. Friendship that was born in the course of hard work between Tenaska and Hidroelectrica Boliviana defining how the Taquesi Hydroelectric Project was going to be a reality and would not only be a conception of our minds. That friendship very soon grew very fast knowing that we did share views about what life ought to be, what friendship ought to be and what loyalty ought to be.

Looking back to those early days in which John and I met, coming from different backgrounds, but sharing values and principles, I have to say today that I am privileged to have met him, and I am honored that we shared dreams about life. At the end of the day all of us will have to depart sooner or later. What is important is that making a final balance one must say “it was worthy meeting you”. That is exactly what I feel today. It was worth sharing an important part of my professional and personal life with John.

Linda and  Tom receive all the appreciation from the folks at  Hidroelectrica Boliviana, receive all the love of my daughters Macarena and Camila as well as that of my wife Cecilia and mine. Linda I shall call you in January, once all this moment has passed to chat and remember John as we ought to do, as the good person he was, a person that surely will be missed and remembered by many. Dear Friend Linda and Tom:  It is with great sadness that I am writing this message to both of you.  Randy and I have so many happy memories of our high school days and your first house in Ralston when we visited you.  I have learned with Chris' passing that the trouble with death is it is forever not just an absence for a few days or months. I know that you went this with Jeff's passing.  If we were able, Linda, Randy and I would come for the funeral, but Randy is not able to travel so we will have to miss it.  We will be praying for you and Tom going through this on Friday and after.  I will give you a phone call probably in the New Year after things have settled down.  With love, Randy and Kathy

So very sorry for your loss --- what great memories of the past!  I loved marrying into the Buchanan family and becoming a part of those wonderful times!  Hoping that you're comforted by memories, the caring of others, and the healing power of time.
