It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Mary Eileen (McNish) Bedell on October 23, 2025, at the age of 82. Eileen was born on February 27, 1943 in Topeka, KS, the second child of four children born to Eugene and (Emma) Mary McNish.
Eileen met the love of her life and beloved husband of 61 years, David Bedell, when she was a student nurse and he was an airman at Forbes AFB in Topeka. She joined him in traveling the world as they raised their family.
Eileen dedicated her life to being an amazing military wife, homemaker, and mother. She loved looking for new recipes to prepare for her family and their friends. She self-published three Family Favorites cookbooks. She decorated cakes, made piñatas, and celebrated every accomplishment of her husband and her children.
When her children were raised, Eileen earned a secretarial degree at Omaha College of Business. She then worked for 10 years in the translation department of Mutual of Omaha until early symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease forced her to retire.
Eileen is survived by: husband, David Bedell; daughter, Patricia Bedell; son, Robert Bedell; Daughter-in-law, Karin (Kuppe) Bedell; Granddaughter, Stephanie (Bedell) Westphal and her husband Rene Westphal; Great-Grandson, Varian Westphal.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to The Open Door Mission https://www.opendoormission.org/donate/
A quiet memorial service will be held at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N. Washington Street, Papillion, NE on Thursday, October 30th at 1:00 pm. Eileen’s final resting place will be at Cedar Dale Cemetery in Papillion, NE.
As we say goodbye to our wife, mother, and grandmother, we remember her favorite scripture: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
