Richard, a WWII Purple Heart veteran, passed away on October 31, 2016 in
Indian Trail, NC. Born Dec. 17, 1922, Richard was one of 8 children born to
Joseph and Mary Darda Roza in Omaha, NE. A brother, John and a sister Marti
Hieser of his family survive.
Richard married his Nebraska fiancee Arlene Bull on April 2, 1943, and they
enjoyed 68 years of loving marriage before Arlene's death on 2011. They
raised three children. Son, Robert Roza and wife Anne, and daughters Merry
Lynne Hartrick and Susan Kay Haveman. Surviving are also two grandsons and
six great grandchildren.
As a wounded veteran, Richard helped start a Purple Heart chapter in Winston
Salem, NC and served as its Commander/Adjutant for 10 years. Purple Heart
Chapter 638 has honored Richard with an annual $1,000 scholarship in his
name. It is available to help Purple Heart family members attend college.
