His devotion to his late wife, Amy, was evident by his insistence that their wedding picture always be within his view in his house, and by his daily visits to her grave.
Bob now resides in heaven with grandparents Martin and Margaret Lilly, GP and Martha Green, his beloved Amy, and other friends and family members that preceded him.
Growing up in a farm family, Bob graduated from Platteview Jr. Sr. High School, and received his dual degree, in General Agriculture and in Agronomy Crop Science, from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Bob joined his father, George H. Green, Sr., in farming after graduating from college, and became a Knight of Columbus with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield. He was the founder and first member of the Springfield JayCee chapter. He would hold leadership positions, including chapter President (twice), Director at both the District and Regional levels, and Community Development Vice President for the state of Nebraska. He earned his prestigious lifetime Senatorship (#44661).
Bob and Amy loved being Master Gardeners, both devoting hundreds of volunteer hours over the years. They were co-presidents of the local chapter.
Bob, with Amy, founded and ran the annual Springfield at Heart Community Dinner for over 25 years, which included presenting the Springfield Community at Heart Leadership award, as chosen by a board of Springfield leaders. (The board surprised Bob and Amy one year by choosing them as co-winners, even though their instructions were to pick other deserving leaders in the community.) A community scholarship for graduating seniors was also set up as part of the program.
A few other roles included Bob being on the Springfield Cemetery Board for 31 years, (a Vice President for eight of those years.) He was a lifetime member of the American Iris Society. Bob and Amy were avid canners, and Bob was a top winner for canning at the Nebraska State Fair. Bob also loved singing in the Men’s St. Joseph Choir, and volunteering for various duties in the Church with his brother Knights of Columbus.
Bob was loved by everyone who knew him, and contributed greatly with heart to his community.
