Robert Jerry Overkamp was born to John August Overkamp and Frances Marie Overkamp (Gribben) on May 16th, 1944 in Saint Charles, Missouri welcomed by older brother John Charles Overkamp. Jerry and Chris were married on November 27, 1965 and he received a Bachelors degree in History from St. Louis University and completed his Air Force ROTC training in 1966. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in May of 1966 and in August of that year they welcomed their first child, John Paul Overkamp. His first duty assignment was Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri as a Missile Launch Officer where he also earned his MBA from the University of Missouri. While stationed at Whiteman they welcomed their second son, Michael Patrick Overkamp, in August of 1968. In March of 1975 they welcomed their daughter, Lisa Rose Overkamp. Jerry retired from the US Air Force in 1988 as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a contractor for a defense contracting agency before beginning his tenure as a teacher and coach at Cathedral High School in Omaha, Nebraska and St. Albert’s High School in Council Bluffs. During this time he pursued a Juris Doctorate in Canon Law from Catholic University in Washington D.C. He was ordained a Deacon in 1991 and served St. Columbkille Catholic Church. He also served as a Judge on the Marriage Tribunal for the Archdiocese of Omaha from 1996 until 2022. His life was marked by service to God, family, country, and church. From seminary, to marriage, to fatherhood, to military service, to coaching, to being a Scout Master, to service as a Deacon, and service to community – he was the definition of a servant leader.
