Gary was born in Ogden, Utah. Soon after, his Dad enlisted in the Air Force, and they moved frequently. Gary especially enjoyed living in Sembach, Germany, where he spent most of his high school years. He had four friends named John, so whenever his parents asked who he was with, he would always say John. They would go camping, and take the train to go to concerts. The friends he made during his formative years, such as John and Alice Sivertson Van Allen, remained lifelong friends. Gary’s Dad received orders to Barksdale AFB before Gary’s senior year, so he graduated High School in Bossier City Louisiana. After graduation, He worked for a short time as an orderly at a hospital, and became life-long friends with Pete Stoystitch. They would hang out, fix Pete’s two seater car, and go camping.
Soon afterwards, Gary enlisted in the Army and chased bad guys. After early retirement, Gary moved back to Bossier City, Louisiana, and worked at the Base Exchange. Gary’s motto was to serve people, and that is what he proudly did.
Gary had grown up wanting children, so upon marrying Brenda Massengill, he had Rachael and Ethan Morris. They brought joy to his life. Meister nights were spent listening to music with his children. He coached sports, and played Santa Claus at Christmas for the BX. He was close to his father-in-law, Virgil Massengill, so after Virgil was admitted to the War Veterans home, Gary spent nearly every day with him.
Later on in life, Gary reconnected with an old family friend from his time in Germany, and moved to Omaha Nebraska to be with his life partner, Donna Jordan.
Gary, described as a gentle giant, will be remembered for his love of people. If you met Gary, he loved you. He was known as Pops, and had many children of his heart, including Samantha Smith, and Kimberly Farrah. He will be remembered for his humor, witty expressions, and his love of music. Papa Bear, we love you and miss you.
Gary will be interred at Cedardale Cemetery in Papillion, Nebraska, with military honors, in a plot next to his soulmate and life partner, Donna, who survives him.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Cresto Morris and Laura Virginia Everett Morris, daughter Rachael Morris Raley, and nephew Jonathan William Morris. He is survived by his son, Ethan (Aubrey) Morris, sisters Barbara Morris, Wendy (Mark) McDearmont, brother Douglas (Tammy) Morris, Grandsons Aiden Morris, Gabriel Raley, Cohen Morris, Daxton Morris, Greyson Morris, and Bentley Morris, nieces and nephews, including Logan Ward, Ryleigh McDearmont, Alexander Morris, and Victoria (Carter) Harris.
