Scott passed away peacefully at his home, on the morning of October 23, 2025, in the presence of his wife, two sons, and a beautiful Nebraska farmland sunrise. He was 68 years old.
Scott was born on December 18, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in Springfield, Nebraska, where he lived all his life, and graduated from Platteview High School in 1975.
It was also 1975 when Scott met and began dating Judy. They married soon after on November 27, 1976, and had two sons. In 1983, they built their forever home less than two miles from where Scott grew up. Through 48 years of marriage, they traveled the country from Alaska and Maine, to Florida and California. They spent many an evening fishing on the lake, attending numerous Husker football games, and remained the best of friends.
Scott had strong roots and an unwavering commitment to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, his sons, Nate Dobbs (Sarah Evans Dobbs) and Ken Dobbs (Kylie Dobbs), Sisters Valerie Dobbs, Sharene Dobbs, and Gay James, and Grandchildren Allison (12), Kiera (10), Haven (9), and Grayson (7), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Janet Dobbs.
Scott loved spending time in his shed. Not only was the shed a place for his tools, skid loader, tractors, and restored 1961 Thunderbird, it was also the gathering place for his friends and family. It was there that Scott hosted the best fish frys, famous fall hayrack rides, and gatherings to celebrate special occasions. He loved to spend time smoking meats in his custom built smoker. Throughout the years, everyone who came to visit Scott didn’t bother to walk in the front door…instead, they drove up to the shed.
Scott was known for his strong work ethic. He worked as a laborer and backhoe operator for Roloff Construction, and later as a laborer and foreman at Ash Grove Cement Company. His work ethic was built into his character, as Scott was the person everyone could count on to show up when help was needed.
Scott adored his grandchildren, and they adored him. He was the reason for their smiles and side-splitting laughter. He loved giving them rides in his Gator and walking with them down to the creek. He even grew a pumpkin patch exclusively for them.
In losing Scott, we lost a husband, dad, grandpa, papa, brother, and wonderful friend.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Nebraska Cancer Specialists and St. Croix Hospice for the care and compassion they showed to Scott in his final days. His long bout with cancer was marked by his persistent strength and determination.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on November 7, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N. Washington St., Papillon, NE 68046. Funeral services will be held on November 8, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Papillon, NE.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Scott’s honor to the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.
