Anita Gail (Griffis) Smith, 78, of Paris, TX passed away peacefully at home with her beloved dog companion, Smitty, on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled a graveside service for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at White Cemetery in Longview, with a visitation at the graveside from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. There will also be a family visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Bright-Holland Holland Funeral Home. Anita was born March 13, 1939 in Hugo, OK to Robert Eugene Griffis and Mary Maude (Bills) Griffis. She married Marshall Neal Smith, Jr. on September 12, 1958. Anita graduated from Longview High School, and attended BMI school of Business. She worked as a legal secretary for James Falvey as well as for Roberts, Harbour, Smith & Harris law firm. The family lived and raised their girls in Longview, and were members of First Baptist Church of Longview, TX. In the 1980s, she and her husband moved in order to see the world, taking their youngest two children to Louisiana, and then Algeria, Africa where they worked, lived and enjoyed traveling. It was there that she found her son-in-law, Jim Collins. These years were among the best of her lifetime. After Neal’s passing and moving away from Longview, she worked for the EPA in Dallas before retiring to Paris, TX to be near her cousins. In Paris, she attended Springlake Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Curtis Griffis, and both of her parents. She is survived by her three daughters, Natalie Smith Harrell (Greg Harrell) of Mt. Juliet, TN; Jeryl Collins (Jim Collins), of Sugar Land, TX; and Eliska Smith (fiancé Edgar Padilla) of Sweetwater, TX; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. Anita’s daughters extend their deepest gratitude to Fred Fangio and other members of our Paris family for their loving companionship and care of Anita in her retirement years.
