Caggie Merline Slaton, 81, of Powderly, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Brentwood Terrace Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Cremation was under the care & direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Mrs. Slaton, the daughter of Robert Samuel Chessher & Mattie Lee Porter Chessher, was born Dec. 12, 1943, in Charleston, TX. Her career as a hairdresser spanned many years before her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert S. Ballard, a grandson, Dustan Ballard, and two brothers, Jimmy Blount and Benny Blount. Survivors include three children, Rhonda Bussell & husband Steve, Terri Cobb & husband Gerald, and Darren Ballard, grandchildren, Stephen Bussell & wife Brandie, Courtney Steward & husband Roger, Amanda Hutchings & husband Kelly, Christopher Cobb, Matthew Cobb & wife Stephany, Evan Cobb, Tarren Moore husband Alex, and Brandi Norris, 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and two siblings, Billy Blount and Wanda Booth & husband Richard along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
