

Charley Eugene McDowell, 84, beloved husband, father, and “PaPa”, passed from this life on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, to Charles Eugene McDowell and Bonita Ruth Klingensmith. He graduated from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles. After graduation he attended John Brown University. He was deployed as a member of the National Guard during the Korean War in communications. He responded to a field posting for a commissary cook because he was hungry. He worked for Bob Chase Construction Co. in southern California as a door hanger and finish carpenter. After moving to Paris in 1970, he worked for various local contractors and property management companies. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and wife, Mary Ellen. Survivors include sons; Danny & wife Rhonda, Glenn Tubbs & wife Lori, Keith, Jerry & wife Darlene, Scot & wife Jackie, and William & wife Kelli, daughters; Susanne Carroll & husband Michael, Jeanine Cole & husband Jerry and Libbie Nimmo & husband John, 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren several nieces & nephews along with a host of friends. A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, at Paris First Church of the Nazarene, 185 20th N. E., Paris, Texas with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Services provided by Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Cremation was conducted under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. If desired, memorial gifts can be donated to the Paris Public Library or the charity of your choice.
