

John “Chick” Rook, 93, of Powderly, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at Heritage House of Paris. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21st at Paris Church of God with Rev. Mark Sanders & Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Rook, the son of James Grady & Lula McCarty Rook, was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Aly, AR. He attended school at Crossroads near Pattonville. During World War II he served his country in the United States Army. His career with the Texas Highway Department spanned thirty one years before his retirement. He was a member of Powderly Church of God. Chick was an avid “42” player. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Doy Rook, Doyce Rook, Delaney Rook and Dee Rook and a sister, Dorothy McCann. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Fay Daughtrey Rook, whom he married on Aug. 20, 1948, building sixty-eight years of family and memories, three children, Glenna Ingram of Paris, Gretta Ashford of Paris and Greg Rook & wife Melinda of Chandler, grandchildren, Mike & Shanna Peace of Kyle, Kim Ford of Paris, Jennifer Taylor of Powderly, Mark Peace of Arlington, Trevor & Grant Rook of Chandler and Garet Ingram of Minot, ND, great grandchildren, Cameron & Lacy Ashton of Paris, Tyler & Kassidy Ashton of Powderly, Dakota Ashlock of College Station, Kallie & Rachel Peace of Dallas, Breanna Ford of Paris and Jonathan Peace of Kyle, great great grandchildren, Copper Ashton of Powderly and Jaxon Ashton of Paris, two sisters, Donnie Forman of Mimbres, NM and Dovie Mouser of Plano, three sisters-in-law, Jackie Rook, Betty Rook and Wynell Rook along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be: Mike Peace, Mark Peace, Trevor Rook, Garet Ingram, Grant Rook, Cameron Ashton, Tyler Ashton, Dakota Ashlock, Jonathan Peace, Copper Ashton and Jaxon Ashton.
