

Norris Farris, 73, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at his home. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Pastor LaVonda Carter officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Knights of Honor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Norris, the son of Starling & Julia Smith Farris, was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Lamar County. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mindy Farris, his wife, Rebecca, his parents, three brothers and two sisters, including his twin sister. Norris served in the U. S. Army receiving four Purple Hearts. Having obtained the rank of Sergeant 6 he was honorably discharged in 1968. He was an excellent carpenter and built houses and businesses over a large part of northeast Texas. Survivors include three sisters; Mary Finley & husband Garlyon of Grant, OK, Gracie Farris of Powderly and Margaret Doman & husband Johnny of Paris, a son, Billy Farris, along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be Bill Martin, Johnny Doman, Earnest Ponder, Billy Farris, Bryan Gunwall and Jason Finley. Norris loved everyone and never met a stranger. A giving person, he would give you the shirt off his back. Norris was a very strong person and wanted to help people. He had a great love of God.
