Steve Marshall Chennault was born on Jan. 20, 1943, in Blossom to Sara Frank (Swain) Chennault and Eddie Chennault. He came from a farming family that worked mostly in the cotton industry. He was the ninth of ten children: Edgar, Clarence, Melba, Dorothy, Dudley, Ellen, Donald, Sarah and Joe. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 3rd, at Knights of Honor Cemetery with Dr. Eddie Chennault officiating. A formal visitation is not scheduled. Family and friends may pay respects at the funeral home each day until noon Friday. At the age of 5 he began his fascination with trucks when he was given a red, yellow and blue dump truck that read “Jack Construction” on the side. Another passion was trains. His mother always yelled “Somebody catch Him!” when the train whistle sounded. When he was able to purchase plastic model kits of cars and trucks he put them together meticulously paying careful attention to every detail. He continued to enjoy building kits and graduated to building big rig kits. He retired from Earth Grains Bakery. He also worked on race nights in the pit of the Paris Drag Strip for several years and always maintained a passion for truck and race cars. Steve discovered and displayed a fascinating talent in his later years. He began making trucks, campers, and buildings from cardstock weight paper, wood, metal pieces and other everyday objects he ran across. Some creations became dioramas and many dozens became gifts for people who admired his talent. One of his larger dioramas depicting a truck stop was entered in the State Fair of Texas. He became known for his talent of making detailed vehicles out of common materials and the Denton Chronicle published an article about his ability and he was interviewed by WFAA, Channel 8 in Dallas. Steve’s gentle heart, good humor and generous spirit endeared him to an enormous amount of people who had the good fortune to be a part of his life. He is survived by his sisters; Melba Black, Ellen Weaver and Sarah Wortham, brothers; Donald and Joe, sisters-in-law; Saundra, Elvarita, Bobbie and Rita. He spent his last years living near his brother, Donald, sister-in-law, Saundra, niece Amy and his best friend, Stephen Cramer. A survivor of colon cancer, Steve lost his battle with lung cancer on Feb. 27, 2017, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to the National Cancer Society.
