Born July 15, 1948, in Spokane, Washington, Steve lived a life defined by hard work, steady love for his family, and a heart that never hesitated to help others.
Steve married the love of his life, Charlotte, on February 15, 1990, and together they built a life rooted in family, laughter, and shared adventures. They enjoyed an active life together, holding a special fondness for Hawaii and making countless memories on the road in their 5th wheel.
Steve spent 30 years as a lineman. A career that reflected who he was: dependable, capable, and willing to do the tough jobs that keep life moving. He made his home in Brownsville, Oregon, and cherished snowbird winters in Salome, Arizona.
Wherever he was, Steve was happiest outdoors—fishing, camping, razor riding, and soaking up fresh air. When he wasn’t outside, you could usually find him in his shop woodworking, fixing something, or building something better than it was before. He loved NASCAR—especially his beloved Jeff Gordon—and he never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams: the Oregon State Beavers, the Oregon Ducks, and the San Francisco 49ers. And no list of Steve’s loves would be complete without mentioning his dogs, who were always truly part of the family.
To those who knew him, Steve was the person you could count on. If something broke, he could fix it. If someone needed help, he showed up. He was always willing to lend a hand—steady, capable, and generous with his time.
As Papa, he had an especially soft spot for children. He didn’t just spend time with his grandchildren—he planned for it. He was always dreaming up projects to do together and building memories right alongside whatever he was building with his hands. In more recent years, that same joy continued as he welcomed and adored his great-grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his children David of Hillsboro, Oregon; Michael (Kimberly) of Indio, California; Carey of Albany, Oregon; and Kelly (Joey) of Indio, California; his grandchildren Jaykobi, Caitlin, Cody, Sidney, Megan, Nathan, Erin, Amy, Kevin, Justin, and Ben; and his great-grandchildren Luca, Nico, Kinsley, Riley, Liam, and Olivia.
Steve—Papa—will be remembered for his generous spirit, practical wisdom, and the way he made people feel safe—because they knew he’d be there. His legacy of family, craftsmanship, and quiet kindness will live on for generations.
