Alberta J. Harris, 97, went to her final rest with Jesus peacefully in her sleep December 29, 2024, while in hospice care at the Bridgeport Healthcare Center in WV. She was born April 14, 1927, in Fairmont, WV, the daughter of Orin Hershal Price and Anna Lucy (Fluharty) Price. Anna died early in Alberta’s life and her father later married Lillian Barker, her stepmother.
Shortly after completing public schooling, she met and eventually married her husband, Clifton R. Harris in 1946. The next thirty years in Fairmont were filled with raising a family, administrative work positions (the phone company, A&P Warehouse, Ryder Truck Rental) and growing her Faith and involvement through the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Alberta was presented an opportunity within Ryder Systems to be the company tax auditor for their North America locations and was based in Florida. In 1976 Alberta & Cliff relocated to Tampa. She resided in Tampa until her final days when she wanted to return to WV and family.
While in Tampa, she was very active with Lake Magdeline United Methodist Church as a volunteer, Bible & prayer group studies, and Stephens Ministries. She was also a long-time volunteer with the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Freda Kane and two brothers Bill Price & Frank Price. Her husband of 55 years, Clifton R. Harris passed June 14, 2001. Surviving are two sons Gregory and his wife, Rose, of Atlanta as well as Randall and his wife, Brenda of Fairmont, WV. Four grandchildren Matthew Harris (wife Heather), Sarah (Harris) Davis (husband Charlie) living in Ashville, NC; Justin Harris (wife Rachel) of Chicago, Christina (Harris) Ward (husband Zachary) living in Jakarta, Indonesia. Many nieces & nephews also hold memories of her. Alberta was also blessed with eight great grandchildren Charley, Shelby & Silas Davis of Ashville, NC; Dylan, Taylor & Wesley Harris (Chicago); Parker & Zoe Ward (Jakarta).
As per her wishes Alberta will be cremated and her ashes distributed at sea with her husband. A notice of her memorial service will be posted at a future date. She will also have her name engraved on a Memorial stone along with her husband’s in the Grafton WV National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those that wish to remember Alberta may make of gift in her memory to Lake Magdeline United Methodist Church, 2902 W Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL 33618.
