David G. Grapes

He was born June 9, 1930, in Ohio, a son of the late Roy E. and Evelyn E. Astry Grapes. Dave opened and operated Dave’s Price Rite Market in Lubeck, WV before his retirement. Dave was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved working in his flower garden and spending time with his family and with his dog, Lady, whom he rescued from the animal shelter. He was also an avid wood worker and enjoyed making furniture for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Wagner Grapes; five children, David Grapes, II, and his wife, Dawn, Sandy Cowan and her husband, Bill, Kristy Fox and her husband, Rick, Marcie Conley and her husband, Steve, Allen Hoselton and his wife, Leanne; eight grandchildren, Amber Gill and her husband, Marcus, Kari Geary and her husband, Brandon, Chase Fox, Angela Cowan, Michael Cowan, Natalie Grapes, David Grapes, III, and Joseph Ankrom; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua Gill; and one sister, Marjorie Shingleton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald E. Grapes.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. Guy Lowther officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
