Born Dottie Blackwell on May 31, 1941, she was the eldest daughter of Orland “Blackie” and Sue McDonald Blackwell. After graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1960, she held a number of positions in local factories until she retired. She married James Wagoner, and they welcomed two daughters. She later remarried to Clarence Wagoner Jr, whom she was with until his death.
Dottie loved to garden and was often seen out in the flowerbeds even when she knew she should have been resting, a testament to her stubbornness. A talented baker and cook, she was famous for her zucchini bread and fruitcake. She often spent holidays cooking and baking with her daughter and grandchildren. A devout Baptist, she had attended Pleasant View Baptist Church under the guidance and leadership of Lloyd Winans and Jerry Caplinger.
In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Wagoner, former husband James, her sister Lottie and youngest daughter Kelly. She was also preceded in death by dear friend of the family Robert “Bob” Daley and several pets including her dachshund Dewey and chihuahuas Chico, Chichi and Pedro. In addition to family, she was also preceded in death by her beloved pastor Lloyd and his wife Stella.
Dottie is survived by eldest daughter Sandra (Frank) Day and grandchildren: Kristyn (Billy) Smith, Faith “Fae” (Daniel) Steele, Frank Day, Kaelyn Day and Gabriel Blosser, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several friends, including Judy Knopp, Betty Davis and Lavona McMillan, whom the family wishes to extend special thanks for caring for her.
Per Dottie’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
Arrangements will be handled by Sunset Memorial and she will be interred there at the Memorial Gardens next to her late husband and close to her mother and daughter.
Sunset Memorial Funeral Home is honored to assist the Wagoner family.
