George Henry Elliott, 86, of Parkersburg, died in his home on January 15, 2011.
He was born July 18, 1924 in Keaton, KY, a son of the late Frank J. and Clemma Stephens Elliott. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School Class of 1942. He was a decorated World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, earning eight battle stars. He was a member of VFW Post 1212, a 30 year retiree of Borg Warner Chemicals, leader of Boy Scout Troop 109, member of the Southside Southern Baptist Church, and ordained Deacon and a bowling coach. After returning from WWII, George kept his promise and married the love of his life Betty on July 28, 1946. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Lou (Hall) Elliott; one sister, Carleen Smith of New Jersey; one brother, Herbert R. (Paula) Elliott of Florida; five children, Tonda (Elmo) Thompson of Parkersburg, Callie J. Elliott of Clarksville, TN, Becky (Lynn) Campbell of Savannah, TN, Steve (Sharon) Elliott of Parkersburg, and Tricia Elliott Eaton of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren, Betsi (Dustin) Foster of Paris, TN, Billy (Denise) Deel of Milan, TN, Dustin (Jackie) Campbell of Savannah, TN, Nicole Sutton of Parkersburg, Derek “Odie” (Jessica) Campbell of Henderson, TN, Jessica (Justin) Tennant of Vienna; Hannah Elliott of Parkersburg, Morgan Thomas and Malari Davis, both of Parkersburg; and five great-grandchildren, Scott Bizeau and Jack Foster of Paris, TN, Carter Sutton of Parkersburg, Lucas Deel of Milan, TN, and Kristen Campbell of Savannah, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tillie E. Little.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Paul Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites by the WV National Guard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. at the funeral home.
