Jack R. Greathouse passed away July 3, 2019 at WVU Medical Center Parkersburg. He was born May 28, 1932 in Spencer, West Virginia to Brooks C. and Flossie Price Greathouse. Jack graduated in 1951 from PHS where he played basketball and football. He then joined the U. S. Navy where he served on the icebreaker U.S.S. Staten Island AGB-5 during the Korean War. He was hired as part of the first crew at Marbon Chemical, later known as Borg Warner Chemicals, and then G.E. Plastics. Jack coached Small Fry Basketball for the Wood County Recreation Commission for several years. After retiring in 1991 he joined the South Hills Senior Mens Golf Club where he served as Treasurer for several years. Jack is survived by his daughter Laura of Parkersburg, son Jack (Sandy) of Fair Play, SC, four grandchildren: Will (Christi) Walcutt of Parkersburg, Angel (Matthew) Wilson of Lancaster, OH, Jodi (Derek) Smelser of Simpsonville, SC, and Kyle (Rachael) Greathouse of Greenville, SC; seven great-grandchildren: Brayden and Blake Walcutt, Peyton and Lauren Wilson, Mason and Piper Smelser, and Dallas Greathouse, plus several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by his wife Shirley and siblings William Greathouse, Barbara Fowler, Diana Wigal and Sally Snyder. Visitation will be July 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 15.
