Kim lost her 8-month battle to cancer on May 12,2025. She was the strongest woman we have ever met, fighting right to the end. Kim’s final moments on this earth were very peaceful, and she was surrounded by family and many, many prayers.
She was born May 7, 1965, in Wheeling, WV a daughter of the late Bill Houser and Betty Petty Houser.
Kim was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she was a longtime member of North End Church of Christ. Kim graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1983. She was a standout basketball star and is remembered as one of the greatest players to ever come out of PHS. Her talent and determination on the court earned her a place at West Virginia University, where she continued her basketball career at the collegiate level. She met sportswriter Ross Snyder, and the two quickly fell in love, marrying soon after. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with four children, who were her entire world. Her unconditional love for her family was expressed in so many ways. After her children were raised, she taught at Mckinley Elementary until its closing and Jefferson Elementary. She was gifted with patience and a love for children. Her kindness and gentle spirit made a lasting impact on every child she met. Her love for children and passion for basketball led her to coaching, where she poured her heart into guiding teams at the elementary and high school levels. Over the years, she had the joy of coaching not only school teams, but also her own children and grandchildren- a role she cherished deeply. She loved staying active, whether working out at the gym or riding her bike. Her competitive nature showed in everything from sports to family fun. Holden Beach was her happy place- she looked forward to it every summer and was most at peace with a beach chair beneath her and her toes in the sand. What she loved most was being with her family. The love and memories she gave will stay with us forever, and she will be missed more than words could ever express.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 40 years, Ross Snyder; daughters, Kayla (Michael) Snyder-Umstot, Kelsey Snyder, Kameron Snyder; son, Karson Snyder; grandchildren, Fallon Lindamood, Abram Lindamood, Dior Dunn-Martin, Aleka Dunn-Martin; sister, Denise (Jerry) Carpenter; brother, David Houser; nieces, Jenna Carpenter, Katherine (Josh) Trembly, Rebecca Baughan; birth siblings, Jennifer (Scott) Duarte, Traci (Joe) Terrango, Andy Sorine, Mark (Kristen ) Sorine, whom she was blessed to connect with later in life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Jim and Lana Snyder and sister-in-law, Ann Baughan.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday May 16, 2025 at North End Church of Christ 1301 West Virginia Avenue Parkersburg, WV 26104 with Bob Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 P.M. to 8.P.M. Thursday May 15, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kelli Cawley and Cammie Meriwether at Amedisys Hospice for their love, compassion, and kindness during Kim’s final days.
Kim didn’t want flowers at her service. Instead, she hoped you’d give them to someone you love-a wife, a friend, a relative- and cherish the time you have. Donations to one of her favorite charities, Potter’s Children’s Home at 2350 Nashville Road Bowling Green, KY 42101 and North Place Maternity House at 3109 Emerson Avenue Parkersburg, WV 26104, are also welcomed in her memory.
