She was born on March 12, 1918 on Chestnut Lick in Gilmer County at Lockney, WV. She was a daughter of Robert and Emma Meadows Minney. She married Howard L. Fitzsimmons on July 13, 1941. Howard died Dec. 24, 1997 and had no children. They owned and operated Mobile Home Sales in Parkersburg for 50 years. During World War II, she worked at the Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation as a typist.
Ruth was the last of her immediate family of four brothers, Cray, Foster, Carl, and Jessie, and one sister, Osa (Minney) Dobbins. She was also predeceased by numerous nieces and nephews. She lived in Ohio for the last ten years with her nephew helping to care for her.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews, Porter Jr., Geraldine, Bobbie, Janie, Steve, Eddie, Eloise, Jeanie, and Lenora.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1-3pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Entombment will immediately follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
