Andy passed away on December 13th, 2022 in Parksville at the age of 61. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Courtney Meeker and Jordan Meeker; his sisters Jane Tucker (Walter), Kim Horewood and Peg Barber, and his brothers Howie Jr. and Mike, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Howie Meeker, Grace Meeker and his wife, Donna Meeker.
Andy was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1960. He was the youngest out of 6 children. As a child Andy grew up in St. John’s, then moved to Vancouver when he was 13. As a young man he moved around multiple times, playing hockey or helping out at his dad’s hockey school. At one point, Andy travelled to Austria to play hockey. Later, he moved to Manitoulin Island in Ontario and was a manager at the local marina. Andy finally ended up back on Vancouver Island where he met his beautiful wife, Donna, and they began their lives together. The family eventually moved to Alberta where Andy held many different jobs while also working on their farm. After Donna passed away, he and his children moved back to Vancouver Island.
Andy loved the outdoors and it was the one place that he found peace. He worked in two fishing lodges up the west coast of Vancouver Island and got to share his love of fishing with others. If he wasn’t on the ocean fishing, he would be found in the woods simply walking around enjoying nature and listening to the birds. He also enjoyed watching his kids play hockey and could often be found in the stands of the hockey rink with a big smile on his face.
Unfortunately, Andy had struggled for many years with addiction, which took away many of his passions in life. Even at the worst of times, Andy continued to smile and laugh and love his children more than anything. Unfortunately, he eventually lost his life to addiction.
His family would like to thank everyone for all their well wishes and support and to Yates Memorial for their kindness and support to our family.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a Salvation Army.
