1952 - 2023
Butch was born and raised in Brantford, ON. He passed away from lung cancer on August 21, 2023 at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Vancouver Island, at the age of 71.
He is survived by his wife Trish, his son, Bryan (Danielle French) Davis, grandchildren Zach and Will, of Sydney, Australia, daughter, Julie (Mike) Bjorklund, grandchildren Dakota Parrish, Aidan and Mia Bjorklund, of Spokane, Washington, his sisters Shirley (Al) Jones, Jody Chamings, brother Kelly (Maria) Davis, Brantford, brother-in-law and sister-in law, Jim and Carol Wannstrom, Drumheller, AB, brother-in-law, Don (Lee) Pedrini, High River, AB, numerous nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Louise Davis and brothers Bill and Ted Davis.
From the RCMP Depot, Butch was posted to Surrey, BC in 1972, then to Vanderhoof and on to Victoria in 1978, where he joined the Special "I" Section. In 1991 he was transferred and promoted to Sergeant, Special "I", Calgary. His last transfer in 1999 was to Vancouver, where he was the NCO i/c Operations, Vancouver Special "I" Section.
Shortly after being transferred to Calgary, he met Trish, they were married in 1995. Together they enjoyed country western dancing, rodeos and horse shows. He loved the chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede. While he claimed to hate cats, Trish was a cat lover and he quickly learned to love all of the ones they owned over the years, especially Boo.
In 2003 retirement brought Butch and Trish to Vancouver Island, where they settled in Parksville and became active in the curling community and with their strata. They escaped the winters to Yuma, AZ for several years and enjoyed professional sporting events like the NFR, NASCAR, NHRA, golf and hockey games. They did trips throughout the western U.S. and cruised Alaska, the Panama Canal and New Zealand.
Butch was an avid "sports guy". He played junior hockey, football and was active in fastball into adulthood. When he was in high school, he refereed Wayne Gretzky's junior hockey games! He always had a game on tv. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf and cycling. Often known as "Mr. Fix It", Butch enjoyed helping friends with home projects and was always the neighbourhood go-to.
Butch loved his kids and grandkids more than anything, and even though they all lived in different countries, when they got together it was very special family time and he loved watching the grandkids play their respective sports.
He was a genuine "nice guy", well liked and respected by many. At times he was a man of few words, but that quick witted, sharp, dry sense of humour would emerge and he'd have everyone roaring w/ laughter.
The Davis family would like to acknowledge and thank the hard working and dedicated medical staff at the Royal Jubilee, Victoria General, and Nanaimo Regional General Hospitals and BC Cancer, on Vancouver Island.
At Butch's request, there will be no memorial services. Should anyone choose to make a donation on his behalf, please make it to the charity of your choice.
