February 12, 1947 - Montreal, Quebec
March 21, 2025 - Nanaimo, British Columbia
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Margaret Moore on Friday morning, March 21, 2025, at the age of 78 years.
Cathy leaves behind her loving husband Leonard (married 55 years) and their beloved pooch, Shadow, brother-in-law/sister-in-law: Dawson/Carol Moore, Jacqueline Moore, Glenn/Sue Moore, Clayton/Linda Moore, numerous nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Cathy was born in Montreal, on February 12, 1947, the only child of Charles Metcalfe Annett and Margaret Isobel Annett (nee Dawson). Cathy studied at Sir George Williams University (Concordia) in Montreal. She found work at MSAS and worked there many years until retirement. She enjoyed her job and she was an extremely fast and accurate typist. In 1967 she met Leonard during a family function. After about a year of dating they were happily engaged and then married on July 12, 1969. Her honeymoon was an adventurous, memorable trip to Europe, visiting several countries.
Cathy and Len lived in Outremont in Montreal for many years. They had a lovely home there and were close to Cathy’s parents. Cathy and Len also had a trailer on Lake Champlain where they spent quite a bit of time on weekends and holidays. Len’s brother Don also had a place there, and friends of Len and Cathy were also present. Winter or summer, Cathy and Len drove up to spend time at Len’s dad’s beautifully built country cottage, right on Lake Cameron in the Laurentians. It was a great time when all Len’s brothers and their wives got together – allowing for lots of family memories. Len and Cathy also attended numerous events at the Sons of Scotland in Montreal.
After Cathy’s parents had both passed, Cathy and Len decided to move out west to start their retirement years. Most of the Moore family were already living in B.C. and were only too glad to hear that Cathy and Len were on their way as well. Cathy and Len had a lovely new home built in Nanoose Bay, BC on Vancouver Island. In more recent years, Cathy and Len bought an RV and parked it at the Pacific Playgrounds RV Park in Black Creek, BC. Cathy enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings and the many good friends she made while living summers there. Cathy always had an open invitation to having family and friends come and visit them.
Cathy loved photos. In early years she always had a camera on her when she visited places. In later years, she was always thrilled to receive photos of her family especially the kids. She even decided to take on digitizing all the older photos from family albums (and there were lots) and then created digital photo packages for family members.
During her younger years Cathy did a lot of cross-stitching and needle point projects, creating some beautiful pictures that adorned their home. Cathy had a passion for retaining facts, and loved watching Jeopardy – it was amazing that she always knew the answers to so many of the questions. She also made sure to remember everyone’s birthday and anniversary, and sometimes would offer to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ (acapella) if you’d let her. Cathy doted on the poodles that were members of her family at different times – namely, Pom-Pom, Ebony, Tyker and more recently, Shadow. Cathy also loved supporting the BC SPCA.
Cathy was a kind, generous and loving woman and had a real knack for being organized. She also loved being on her computer or corresponding with family and friends back East and England. She was also a lovely hostess for many special lunch and dinner get-togethers for family and friends. She always out did herself when she put together her raclette feast.
It was heartbreaking to find out she ended up in the hospital last year and then, again this year. It was worrisome that the exact cause of her illness was not easily diagnosed. Cathy had some not so good days and some really hopeful days. Throughout her hospital stay, she was still our loving Cathy right up until the end.
To Cathy, our sister-in-law, auntie, wife and good friend, you will always be with us in our fond memories of you. You are loved. We miss you already.
Thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for all their care.
A get-together to celebrate Cathy will take place for family, at a future date.
