He will be dearly missed by his wife Carole of 55 years and children Scott (Donna-Rae) of Dryden, Ontario, Cameron (Gina) of Vancouver, BC and Erin (Jim) of Cochrane, Alberta and grandchildren Liv, Jess, Zoe, Julia, Ryan, and Kaitlyn.
Dennis and Carole met at Brandon University and lived in New Hamburg and Marathon before moving to Dryden in 1974 where Dennis touched the lives of many students and colleagues teaching at Dryden High School until his retirement in 1998. He coached football, hockey, and curling for many years and stories are still shared today of the many bus trips and the boys hockey team epic run at the Ontario championship.
Dennis and Carole built a beautiful log cabin on Edward Lake and spent many summers with their kids enjoying everything that beautiful Northwestern Ontario offers. He enjoyed flying and was always happy to take a friend or colleague fly-in fishing for the day. They retired to Parksville, BC on Vancouver Island in 1999 to begin the next chapter of their lives.
Travel and adventure were a big part of Dennis’ life with many family road trips, camping, hiking and canoe trips, and travels throughout Europe, Mexico and other parts of the globe with Carole.
Dennis will be remembered for his brilliance, quick wit and dry sense of humour. He was always there for his family, always laughing and smiling, and willing to lend a hand to friends whenever they needed. He will always be remembered.
Condolences may be posted on Yates Memorial at www.yatesmemorial.ca.
