He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Kerry, grandson Nick, granddaughter Jenny (Jordan), great grandsons Ronan and Jackson, brother Terry (Beverly), along with many great friends and wonderful neighbours. He is predeceased by his sister Violet (Wayne) and brother Dennis (Joanie).
Ed was born on a farm outside of the small town of Rhein, Saskatchewan, but spent much of his life living on Vancouver Island. He was a very hard-working man, and was never afraid to roll up his sleeves. He had a long and successful career as a union drywaller while operating a sizeable farm with his wife Betty in Saanichton for many years.
He was an avid sports fan and athlete for much of his life. Ed loved all sports, but hockey was king. His team was the Montreal Canadiens, and he loved to regale his family with stories of the good old days of his favourite team. He played both hockey and baseball even as he got older, and was an active member of local teams in Parksville for many years. He loved all sports, and he especially enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship that came with being a part of a team.
Ed also enjoyed camping, classic cars, and the company of others, especially in retirement. He loved driving his 1960s Corvette and Mustang, and Betty and him would often meet with friends and neighbours for coffee and to share stories.
He suffered two strokes in his later years, and became a resident at the Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville. Betty and Kerry would like to extend their immense thanks to the incredible staff at that facility for their support and commitment to caring for Ed during his time there.
Per Ed’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
