Mom grew up on the family farm and met our dad when he came to help harvest. They were married on May 11, 1941 in her parents’ home. Dad worked at the Creamery in Foam Lake and then at grain elevators. In 1956 our family moved to Port Alberni where Dad obtained work at Woodward’s warehouse. Mom was the quintessential homemaker. She was renowned for her fresh buns, delicious baking, and waffles with ice cream on Sundays after Church. She was close friends with all the neighbours and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mom & Dad often held a New Year’s party where family and friends could enjoy good company and lots of dancing. Mom was an active member of the First United Church and, after Dad passed, she volunteered at Rollin Art Centre. Mom also enjoyed walking the dyke with her friends Chris Buitenhuis, Joan Roach, Otto and Freda Falk.
In 2010, Mom moved into Heritage Place where she thoroughly enjoyed the friendly staff, the many activities and the good company of the other residents. Sadly in 2017, it became necessary for Mom to move to Rainbow Gardens/Tsawaayus. The staff there treated her like a queen! We will always be grateful for their care and attention to our mom!
The family would like to thank our cousin, Lynda Dalton and our good friend Ann McMillen for always being there for Mom. Special thanks to Dr. A. Fraser for his excellent care of Mom. Due to COVID a gathering, at this time is not possible. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie’s memory can be made to First United Church or a charity of your choosing.
