She was born at home on a coffee estate in Thika, Kenya and was the youngest of 10 children.
In 1955, Evelyn married Jim Parker and moved to London for a year, then Canada. When their daughter was born, they moved to North Vancouver.
In 1967, she started a new chapter in her life as a single working mother and moved to Langley. She and her daughter lived on 12 acres with a large vegetable garden and a variety of pets including dogs, cats, a horse, rabbits, chickens, ducks and even a possum!
In 1995, she moved to Nanaimo where she retired and married Ed Lins. Evelyn and Ed traveled to Zimbabwe, South Africa and Australia to visit her siblings. They also had many fun adventures in their motorhome. Evelyn made many new friends and beautified the neighbourhood, giving away flowers from her greenhouse. She joined the Salvation Army Church and volunteered.
Evelyn was a very generous, fun, creative and unique person who loved nature and animals. She was an avid gardener and a creative cook.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, daughter; Diane and son-in-law, Dan; step children, Bob (Debbie), Julie (Jim), Holly, Cheri (Steve), grandchildren, brothers Geoff, Robert and Michael and her furry walking buddy, Cassie.
Thanks to the nurses in ICU for their tender care.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Salvation Army Church.
