

Gisela was born in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany on January 9, 1948. She migrated to Canada with her family in 1954 and settled in Winnipeg. It was there that she met her husband of 51 years, Harry. They moved to BC on their honeymoon and after touring the province for 2 months, they settled in Port Alberni, her home for over 50 years. Gisela’s life centered around her family and many friends. She is legendary for her gatherings and gourmet cooking. Her kindness and warm smile were infectious and everyone in her presence felt special and valued. She loved travelling, enjoying many trips with Harry, her family, and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Kurt and Irene and sister Brigitte, Gisela is survived by her loving husband Harry, sons James (Tami), Christopher (Jodi), Jonathan, and Michael. Her five grandchildren, the light of her life Koen, Rhylie, Oskar, Liam, and Abigail. Her brother Rudy (Wendy), sister Linde (Godwin), brother in law Heinz (Janet), sister in-law Ilse (Horst), and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. White, Dr. Johnsen, Home Care nurses, and Dianne MacKenzie for the wonderful care they provided. Also, to Rosalind Pickup for being such a special friend and keeping Gisela comfortable in her last days.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 9:00 am at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Rd. Parksville, BC. Burial to follow at Qualicum Beach Civic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Society in Gisela’s name.
