She is survived by MANY nieces, nephews, grandchildren from all her brothers and sisters, extended family and her many, many, friendships.
Mary was a relative and friend to MANY. She was VERY outgoing and known very well in the community of Port Alberni. She grew up with the Tseshaht and Hupacasath members – and have many friends throughout these communities. She never lost her roots of Ahousaht. Her children are both Tla-o-qui-aht and Mowachaht. So – she has MANY connections throughout the Nuu-chah-nulth Territories. And she always knew that!
It was February 1, 2019, when the UBC hospital doctor gave us her diagnosis. Ataxia: Ataxia is usually caused by damage to a part of the brain known as the cerebellum, but it can also be caused by damage to the spinal cord or other nerves. Her brain is shrinking, and she’s losing control of movement(s). Taste. Smell. Hearing. Speech. Legs/arms movement. Everything!
Those movement disorders became many between 2019 and February 2023. Her legs were the first to give out, and she was wheelchair bound fast. After being hospitalized in February, she lost most function of her arms and her throat (swallowing) capabilities.
She fought the battle! She was our baby sister, and the strongest one of us all!
· SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS… her journey home will be wonderful. No more suffering little sister …..
