Born on Sept. 19, 1937, in Port Alberni, Jim lived most of his life in Port Moody until moving to Parksville in 2014. Jim was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Buckley, and is survived by a family of dedicated friends, who will forever cherish his memory and impact he had on their lives.
Jim worked at Canadian General Electric for 22 years, and was known for his versatility and commitment, taking on roles with a spirit of camaraderie and mischief. His colleagues will remember the practical jokes and unique, sense of humor.
Jim served as a Scout Leader, for over 40 years. Honored by the Scouting Association and by Port Moody for his dedication, Jim invested not only his time but also his resources in enriching the lives of young scouts. He built canoes with them and took them on adventurous camping and canoeing trips, with his dog by his side for many years. His passion for mentoring and love for the outdoors left an indelible mark on many young lives, some of whom have remained lifelong friends.
Jim was an enthusiast of model trains, planes, and ships, and he also crafted a replica of the Town of Port Moody that we are told may still be around. He was a skilled carpenter and undertook many projects over the years.
After a long battle with CHF and prostate cancer, Jim found peace in the embrace of Trillium Hospice in Parksville. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to their remarkable staff. Their compassion and kindness in caring for Jim during his final days was extraordinary, and their support will forever be remembered with deep appreciation.
As we say goodbye to Jim, may his spirit find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who hold him dear. At his request, there will be no service, but it made him smile to hear that his ashes will be spread in a favorite spot by long time former scout friends.
