James Carroll Williamson, 91 years young & with family by his side, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, August 28, 2025. Voice messages of love & appreciation from loved ones comforted Jim throughout his hospitalization. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Jaquelyne Lucille Williamson (Tomlinson) in 2013. Jim loved Jackie & honored her memory for the rest of his life.
Jim cherished the companionship of family & friends especially during these past few years. Everyone, in many different ways, helped to make his days happy & rewarding, safe & comfortable. Thank you all for showing Jim - Dad - Grandpa how much he meant to you with your attention & affection.
“Jimmy Carroll” was born February 23, 1934 to Lola Marjorie Kassleman & Eugene Carroll Williamson in Guymon, Oklahoma. Jim’s father was killed in action in March of 1945 near Bamdam, Philippines. Jim remained proud of the Purple Heart & Presidential letter of Condolences awarded to his father for his valor. Growing up on his grandfather’s farm, in the epicenter of the dust bowl shaped a fatherless only child into a man determined to succeed.
When Jim was 9 he saw the most beautiful little blond girl he’d ever seen across the gymnasium. He knew then he was going to marry her. On August 27, 1951 he did.
Jim & Jackie welcomed 4 children into the world in Oklahoma & Iowa before packing a u-haul & moving the family to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1965.
Career opportunities, his favorite activities of hunting & fishing along with universal healthcare convinced Jim to remain in Canada. With a wife & family he loved, dog training, year round hunting & fishing, a great career… Jim was living his dream.
Jim excelled as a civil engineer, earning the position of Regional Manager for AGT (Telus) in central Alberta. He shared his life long passion for the outdoors with his children & grandchildren. After retirement Jim & Jackie built an acreage home in Blackfalds, Alberta & enjoyed hosting their children & grandchildren for weekends & holidays.
In 1996 Jim & Jackie moved to Vancouver Island, built a new home & started living a west coast life. He made some nice wine, enjoyed great success as a charter fisherman & gardened with the love of his life, the “Little Flower” to his “Big Weed”. Grandchildren delighted in catching fish of all kinds & feasting on prawns & crabs caught by the Captain & first mates of Kidstuff. From the Beachcomber Marina to Schooner Cove, China Creek to Kildonan, Papa Jim & Grammie Jackie shared the good life on Vancouver Island with their friends, their children & many grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his four children (and spouses); James Michael (Michelle) Williamson, Jena (Richard) Magnus , Cindy (Steve) Morris, & Lisa Williamson; also 10 grandchildren(and spouses): Jason(John), Jesse(Angela) & Matt(Candyce) Morris; Andrea Bannister(Mark), Riali Williamson & Amadeus(Kate) Williamson; Rees(Kim) & Casey(Jade) Magnus, Natalie (John) Olson; & the youngest, Lisa’s son, Nathan Dunstan Williamson.
Jim & Jackie’s legacy also includes 12 great grandchildren: Cindy’s grandchildren Grayson, Tristan, Nyah, Malia, Andy Joe; Jena’s grandchildren Wyatt, Bowdee & Richard; Michael’s grandchildren, Sawyer, Elliot, Charlotte & Caia.
Job well done Jimmy Carroll. You succeeded in your endeavors & lived a life to be proud of. May you & Jackie dance on among the stars. Sending love, respect & heartfelt thanks. We’ll watch for your sparkle.
The family would like to thank the many kind & capable care givers from Oceanside Home Support & the Palliative Care Team at NRGH. Jim’s family will be forever grateful for being there when he, & we, needed you most.
A memorial & tribute to the life Jim & Jackie lived & shared will take place next summer. Date to be determined.
