Jerry Roger NELSON

1936 - 2016

Jerry was born in Cranbrook, B.C. on November 29th, 1936.

He passed away at West Coast General Hospital on December 16th, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer with his wife Mary at his side.

Jerry is predeceased by his father Laurence, mother Janet, his son Martin and his brother Lorne. Jerry is survived by his wife Mary and her children Sandi (Harold) Halvorson, John (Iris) Piatka and Jeff Piatka and two beloved grandchildren Ethan & Deanna Halvorson. He is also survived by his children Wendy and Darcy and their children and Martin’s daughters Lindsey and Dana. He is survived by his 4 sisters Dixie (Harold), Sandra (Ernie), Janice and Marion and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry moved to the Alberni Valley as a child and had many different jobs from delivering papers and shining shoes to working in the woods and being the owner/ operator of Nelson’s Roofing for over 40 years. Jerry was always a great supporter of local children’s sports teams; many will remember the teams sponsored by Nelson’s Roofing. Jerry was a hardworking man with an amazing sense of humour. There was never a dull moment with Jerry around. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Mary and family would like to thank Dr. Daryl Lund and the staff at West Coast General Hospital for their care of Jerry. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to West Coast General Hospital. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14th 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Barclay Hotel ballroom – 4277 Stamp Avenue.  Please feel welcome to join us.
