

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Enid; children, Debora (John) of Didsbury, AB, Roberta (Jean) of Moses Lake, Washington, USA, and Gerrit (Crystal) of Parkville, BC. He has 12 grandchildren, Miranda, Amy, Isaac, Jeran, Blake, Branden, Ashley, Alexis, Brianna, Rene, Luc & Cameron. Joe was one of 10 children born to Gerrit & Elisabeth on January 1,1936 in the Netherlands. His siblings, Lena (Mike-Deceased), George-Deceased (Belva), Jean (Fred-Deceased), Mickey-Deceased (Fred-Deceased), Jake (Elaine), Liz, Pat (Dirk), John (Wendy) & Casey (Patrycee). He also leaves behind may nieces, nephews & family friends.
Joe and his family immigrated from the Netherlands in May of 1952. They travelled across Canada and finally settled in Port Alberni. He found a job with M&B and worked for them until his retirement in 1994.
He loved to fish and lawn bowl. Over the years he called bingo, was an umpire for ball, a community policing volunteer, member of the Tyee Club and an avid bowler.
Cremation has taken place. Please join us for a “Come & Go Tea” on Saturday, December 16th from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club, 4255 Wallace St, in Port Alberni.
