It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Fernando (Nick) Blais on Friday November 21, 2025; a month shy of his 93rd birthday.
Nick, as he was known, was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy and his three sisters: Thérèse, Irène and Jeannine (Lac Mégantic).
He is survived by his children Lindy, Carole (Michel), Tony and Julie, his grandchildren Corey, Lindsey, Charly, Cody, Dylan and Cameron and his great grandchildren Dominic, Maeve and Owen.
Nick had a long career in the Canadian Armed Forces with postings to Saskatoon, North Bay, St.Hubert and others - including a year long UN posting in Egypt. After retiring as a Warrant Officer, he took up a new career as Manager of the military Credit Union in St. Hubert, Quebec. After retiring he and Dorothy moved to Qualicum Beach to enjoy their retirement years, joining many community clubs such as Newcomers Club and PGOSA.
Nick enjoyed many sports as a participant and spectator including hockey, golf, softball and his favourite - bowling. His record high bowling scores at the Parksville alley still stand to this day.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Eagle Park Health Care Facility whose care and support made his final days more comfortable. If desired, a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be appreciated.
