Joyce Stefiuk (Miller) was born on June 16, 1945 in Ste. Rose, Manitoba, to Ruby and Oswald Miller. She lived and attended school in Atikokan, Ontario. Joyce married William Walter Stefiuk on September 15, 1963. Shortly after, they would move to B.C. Tammy Lee Stefiuk and William Peter Oswald Stefiuk would complete their family.
They moved to Parksville, B.C. on Vancouver Island in 1985 to semi-retirement. In a very short time, she was working alongside her husband as a Commercial Fisher. Starting with one boat they grew their company into a fishing fleet of 5 vessels! Joyce not only looked after the massive job of all the paperwork she worked as a Commercial Fisher for Prawns & Salmon. You knew you were getting good meals, your bed made and pillow fluffed if you were on the boat she was on.
They embraced the ‘Snowbird” lifestyle, enjoying the weather and making many good friends. While there she enjoyed crafting, social activities, music, rummaging through thrift shops, garage sales and shopping. All things they were too busy to do during the fishing season.
In 2018 she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She bravely faced her diagnosis and started Chemotherapy. After her husband’s passing in 2022, Joyce chose to fully enjoy retirement and move into the Berwick in Parksville.
Joyce and her family want to thank all the staff at the Berwick, her doctors, the community healthcare team, her Pastor Steve and her church community for all the support they have given her.
She is survived by her brother Sonny Miller, sisters Darlene Share, Cheryl Baily, Ruth Ehelebe, Louise Regis, Joan Campbell, and Lori Cain. Her daughter Tammy Cota, her son & daughter-in-law Bill and Hilary Stefiuk, 7 Grandchildren; Collin Cota, Dorian Cota, Katlin Cota, Kurtis Cota, Lorne Cota, Molly Stefiuk, and Jack Stefiuk, and their families including 11 Great Grandchildren.
A service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on February 15, 2025 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the BC Cancer Society or Our Savior Lutheran Church in Parksville would be greatly appreciated.
