At age 21, she and her husband, Colin, moved to The Isle of Wight where their daughter Sarah Ann was born. Two years later, they moved to South Africa where their son Jamie Edward was born in 1970. They lived in several places, and while they were on a camping holiday through North America in 1976, they discovered Vancouver Island and fell in love with it. After living in both Gold River and Port Alberni, Lyn moved to Nanaimo on her own in 1985.
In her 40's Lyn enrolled in a Tourism Administration degree program at VIU, and afterward worked in various tourism positions, mostly in Customer Service. She also volunteered for several years most notably more than 10 years at the Port Theatre.
Lyn made many friends! She was active in Unity Church, enjoyed fitness classes, aquasize, hiking with The Whiners, and dancing. She was a member of 2 Nanaimo Probus Groups, where she planned and organized day tours and the Gardening Group. She had several orange cats during her life, with Billy being a firm favourite with everyone.
Unfortunately Lyn was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 40s and had another recurrence 5 years later. However, she continued to keep active and visited her family in England several times.
In 2010, Lyn met Roy Vernon, the love of her life. They had a wonderful relationship with lots of traveling, and it was such a happy time. Sadly, Roy developed Alzheimer's and died in 2019. A year later, her only grandson, Tristan died at the age of 20.
In 2021, Lyn was diagnosed with metastasized cancer, but continued to enjoy her life in Nanaimo, before moving to Berwick in Parksville in 2023, where she could look out towards the Ocean on her beloved Vancouver Island.
She leaves behind her sister Jean in UK, daughter Sarah Ann, son Jamie, granddaughter Hannah and many friends.
No service by request, but do think of Lyn when you're out in nature, when you donate to Hospice, or whenever you're inspired to wear a boa!
