January 14, 1978 - December 2, 2023
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Michael William Binns at the age of 45 years on December 2, 2023 in Parksville BC. Michael was a kind and caring soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. He had the biggest heart, filled with compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand whether you were a friend, family member, or a passerby on the street.
Michael had a unique depth to him, and he enjoyed engaging in meaningful conversations and wasn’t one to waste time with small talk. He had a fascination for talking about quantum physics and the universe. His intellect and passion were truly inspiring. We will miss these deep conversations we once had with him, immensely.
He was a heavy equipment operator for several years and was known for his meticulous approach to his work, a trait he inherited from his father. He also took great pride in inventing a patented block retaining wall system in 2011.
Michael had a love for old cars, especially his 65 Impala which he built from the frame up when he was 17 years old. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his cat, Ruffus and could sometimes be found rescuing a stray that didn’t have a home.
Throughout his life, Michael faced and battled a lot of challenges. Despite the challenges he encountered, he never lost his capacity for love and empathy. His enduring spirit serves as a testament to his resilience and strength.
Michael is survived by his nine-year-old son, Blaine, whom he carried in his heart despite being separated by circumstances. He always longed for the opportunity to be a part of Blaine's life. In addition to his son, Michael is also survived by his sisters, Kirsten Ballendine (Wilf) and Karen Binns (Patti) as well as his nieces Jessica and Shania, and his nephew Oliver. His close friends and loved ones will also cherish his memory.
An intimate celebration of life was held for Michael in Qualicum Beach at one of his favourite little pubs, Deez Bar & Grill on January 4th, where he used to enjoy going for a burger and a beer when he lived across from the beach in Qualicum. In remembrance of Michael, let us celebrate the moments of joy he brought to our lives and the kindness he shared with others. May we honour his memory by extending compassion and understanding to those facing similar struggles.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Billy on August 18, 2001 and his mother, Gail on June 24, 2010.
