Omer was born in Frenchville, Saskatchewan on February 29, 1936. After he married and started his family, he moved to B.C. in 1969.
Omer spent his life living it to the fullest. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, but also knew how to let go and have a good time. No matter how big or small the gathering, Omer could be counted on to get everyone dancing. He would say hello and shoot the breeze with virtually anyone on his path. He was passionate about classic cars, loved his Fords and loved to play cribbage. Long walks, cycling and other physical activities were parts of a daily routine he enjoyed for many years.
Omer was a beloved father, brother, uncle, neighbour and friend. He will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives he touched with his warm personality and easy charm.
The family is profoundly grateful to the community healthcare workers at Kiwanis Village and Wexford Creek who cared for Omer in his final years with such warmth and compassion, then gathered by the dozens to give him a veritable hero’s sendoff after he had taken his last breath. Their moving tribute will not soon be forgotten.
Service to take place August 24 at the Grand Hotel in Nanaimo 1:00-4:30.
