

Robert died in hospital on Friday, August 7, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Toronto in 1938 and attended Danforth High until the family moved to Niagara Falls when he was a teenager. In his late teens, Robert joined the Royal Canadian Navy, served on the HMCS Cornwallis and other ships, and ended his naval career as a trumpeter with the Naden Band in Esquimalt. He was honoured to have been a member of the Band when they played for the Queen.
Robert was community-minded serving with the Masons, the Shriners, and the Legion. In 2010, he was awarded a Life Membership for outstanding service by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 49 Mt Arrowmith. Robert was a talented self-employed painter and decorator. As well as being an amateur artist, he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, gourmet cooking, and spending time with friends.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Joan; children, Jennifer and David; Joan’s children, Tracie and Bradley; sister, Grace and her family in Niagara Falls; and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Robert’s honour at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 18th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 49 Mt Arrowsmith, 146 West Hirst Avenue in Parksville.
